Last night I had the privilege of being invited to Universal Music UK’s offices for the Young Guns Network workshop and networking event centered around “The World of A&R”. Not having been to a Young Guns Network event before, I jumped on the tube to Kensington for the evening.
What greeted me upon arrival was a room absolutely full of key industry figures and young aspiring professionals who couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly (The complimentary free drink upon arrival certainly shaking off some nerves too!). The room was buzzing with conversation, giving me the chance to get to know some very interesting individuals
Over the course of the night there were two key speakers, Jai Francois (A&R Manager at Warner Chappell) and Ben Scarr (A&R Manager at Island Records) who talked about their previous experience, how they entered the music industry and their current roles as well as an introduction on how to get a job at Universal and a Q&A/ Networking session to wrap up the evening.
It was fascinating to hear from such influential people, who are without a doubt leading professionals in their respective fields. I’m sure some views and approaches to the music industry were influenced, if not changed by the stories told and issues discussed by Jai and Ben, in a positive way of course!
I also met some incredibly interesting and experienced individuals, all of which had different stories and knowledge to share. If like me, you’re interested in the business side of the music industry, want to learn more and want the opportunity to expand your networks, I highly recommend a Young Guns Network event as this is the PERFECT place to do so.
If you’ve never been to such an event or have perhaps let your nerves get the better of you, I assure you, you have nothing to worry about! It’s really something thats not to be missed!
Clicking the picture above will take you over to Young Guns Networks website where you can find details of all previous and upcoming events, definitely a site to add to your favourites. Hopefully I’ll see you at the next event!
